A quick read, yet very enjoyable romance.

I love a good story which is no-nonsense, contemporary, relatable, and has characters who are not afraid of standing on their own two feet. That is exactly what I got with this book. Romance is a genre which is easy to get wrong. Stereotypes abound, and so many storylines are devoid of any story whatsoever. But not this time.
In The First Night, we have Gannon, who loved Kayla since school days, but he needed to become a man he could respect before he could go looking for his love. Kayla, as well, is an independent young woman who has her head screwed on and works hard to make it in life. She has opinions and her own will, and it is wonderful to see she’s not the type of woman who would simply faint at her hero’s feet.
A well-written, very enjoyable contemporary romance with enough heat to keep you warm on a cold winter’s night. Loved it. I’ll certainly be reading more from this author’s list.

Kayla filled her life with work in between college classes on her way to be a history teacher since she came back to her home town. She had no time at the moment for any male relationship. However, the hot dreams at night says otherwise. Her co-worker Sharon talks Kayla into going the new bar 'Night' on Friday night. As Kayla walks into the bar the sexy bartender catches her attention. Where had she seen him before? Not use to drinking, Kayla all too soon finds herself too drunk to protect herself from almost being taken advance of by a couple that swings when the gorgeous bartender coms to her rescue. The next morning Kayla finds herself in a strange bed nursing one horrible hangover. She staggers out to the kitchen to delicious smelling pancakes being cooked by the bartender. Whoa! What happen last night? Who was he? Why was there was such an sexual attraction to him? Where did she know him from? Why can't she keep her mind off him?

Awesome! I loved this story. The hot sex and sweet romance left a taste blend of delicious lingering in my imagination. Kayla feels trapped in her hometown. When she finds herself waking up with smoking hot bartender Gannon she’s convinced she’s just a one-night stand for the sexy womanizer. Gannon has a secret—he wasn’t always hot. He also knew Kayla when they were in high school. The shy guy cared about her because she was kind. Now she’s there and he’s not sure how to behave. At first, he pushes her away because he’s so used to doing that, but when he realizes he’s hurt her he finds a way to open up. This is very 1-clickable! Don’t pass the story up!

This was a good basic guideline for understanding the biblical principles of how god speaks through dreams. I was hoping for more guidance on how to receive interpretation from God for the dreams we have. Dreams vary greatly and are often very personal to the dreamer, so while the interpretations in the book were useful i have had many experiences in dreams which were not presented in the book. Maybe a part two to provide more information on how to address Heaven for help interpreting your dreams.

If I leaned nothing from this book I learned not to take eating in dreams lightly or sexual dreams. I have seen how the devil use my dreams to attack me when I am not conscious of what is going on. I now guard my dreams and learn to destroy anything I did not gain victory over when I was a sleep after I awake. It is a very resouceful book on dream understanding.

I've been fascinated by fluvial geomorphology for more than two decades, and the topic has routinely been a part of my professional engineering practice. I thought it would be nice to do a comprehensive review of the latest textbook-level thinking on the topic, and I found this book by Ro Charlton to be ideal for that purpose. More specifically, the book is well organized, the writing is clear, the graphics are ample and effective, and the level of detail is "just right" (sufficient for everyone other than specialists, hence the "fundamentals" title). In other words, I learned from this book, and I also enjoyed the learning process.

Unfortunately, the book does reinforce my impression that fluvial geomorphology is still at a relatively immature stage which is mostly just descriptive, with few practically useful predictive models to be found, and with models being more qualitative than quantitative. Of course, this is a consequence of the inherent complexity of streams, not a fault of the book (which is only telling it like it is).

The bottom line is that I recommend this book to anyone seeking an overview of the fundamentals of fluvial geomorphology. I know of no better book for that purpose, and I've looked around fairly diligently.

A Neat Little Journal

I have not yet given this book to my 7-year-old-granddaughter and hope that she is not too young for it. She is definitely a reader and likes to write so I just ignored the suggested age of 8 and ordered it for her. It is a beautifully arranged journal, nice illustrations and for me, fun references to major fashion designers. I have been in the fashion industry so I could relate to the names, but I doubt that my granddaughter will be aware of these "famous" people. However, I expect she will enjoy jotting down her views on clothes, etc. This book is a good way to keep a child busy without worrying about any kind of mess! And hopefully, I may get to work on it with her.

Plain Teaching of the Bible

Williams continues the plain, clear, non-controversial discussion of theology systematically covering salvation, the Holy Spirit, and Christian Living. Again, as I stated in my review of volume 1, this is a great beginner book on theology for someone seeking to understand Biblical concepts without fussing and trying to sort through various competing theologies and high-sounding doctrinal positions.

But, more than that, this volume offers the charismatic perspective, which would do well for any Christian to read and gain a balanced insight and understanding into the various types, modes of operation, personal applications, and the differences between what is meant by "spiritual gifts" as opposed to "natural talents." This is a must read for anyone unsure about the pentecostal/charismatic view or is just plain against it (cessationist) who is ready for the challenge to his uninformed or preconceived notions about the Holy Spirit and spiritual gifts.

He also provides clarity to issues like regeneration, justification and sanctification without going beyond what the Bibles reveals, without countering opposing views, and without philosophical argumentation, delving lightly into controversial topics in a non-confrontational tone as the the security of salvation and possibility of apostasy.

Let me be clear, if one is looking for a book to discuss all the varieties of doctrinal beliefs and theological views, this is not the book. It's purpose is to teach what the Bible teaches and lead readers "more deeply into the truths that He alone can reveal" through the plain exposition of Scripture in a systematized fashion without cluttering or obstructing it with differing points of doctrinal opinions.

The new Christian seeking understanding to gain a better grasp of God's purposes for his life, the old Christian seeking to trod again the "old paths" and regain the simplicity of following Christ, both will benefit from reading and re-reading "Renewal Theology," vol.2.
