A harrowing tale that has to be heard

The Lemay Leveller is a true to life tale, a piece of social prose and a damn good book besides.
It tells of one girl's fight to overcome and is equally a battle cry to all not to stand idly by.
In a time of excess by many The Lemay Leveller matter of factly details the life of someone who often had nothing.
The St Louis backdrop is reminiscent of the London and Manchester of the time where a vast swathe of youth was driven underground through choices not always of their own making. Those who survived will continue to fight the good fight.
The excellent writing allows for an immersion and following that the act of reading cannot achieve by itself. A "Choose you own Adventure" story where someone else is doing the choosing.
And yet it delivers such gems as "I read voraciously, and it was only a matter of time until I did it criminally". Not something I condone but this is a book to get your hands on by any means necessary.

An incredibly touching and honest story which will help others who have been there too

This book follows a young woman from birth to adulthood and feels as intimate as if you are reading her diary. The language is beautiful even as she describes some harrowing incidents and you wish you could climb into the pages to pull her out.
It's a very brave book and anyone who has dealt with abuse, whether that be from family, 'friends' or the state, will feel as though they have a sister who has been in the same place.
It's also a message to the world about how we could make things better, just a little bit, in our own way.
Incredible stuff, and I hope it sells far and wide!

Read this book

Even if the experiences that Erin goes through are beyond horrible, it's impossible to put down. The language is very accessible, and I am amazed at no matter how much crap life sends her way, she's able to walk through it with her head held high!
