About the Author
Amy Young is a third generation Colorado native, and the fact that she leads with this tidbit shows her love of the random. After growing up in Colorado, she moved to Kansas to study and ended up staying because it is far more beautiful than many think. She taught ESL and junior high math for several years before she moved to China, thinking it would be for two years. Sometimes it's good to be wrong in life. More than two decades later she's an expert at packing bags, saying goodbye, and making friends the world over. She blogs regularly at The Messy Middle (messymiddle.com).

An excellent roadmap and manual for those of us in transition

Looming Transitions is an excellent roadmap and manual for those of us in transition. Amy is a gifted teacher and communicator, and her writing reflects her commitment to help us understand and walk through the transition process. Her passion is to help us, and it shines in the pages of this book. Looming Transitions takes difficult concepts and provides vivid word pictures, personal examples, and practical suggestions to help guide you through your own journey. Amy's encouragement to pay attention along the way, reminders that "the goal isn't to get the transition 'just right'," and that "your transition joins a larger story" are life giving nuggets of wisdom. You will benefit from this wisdom whether you are preparing to move overseas, changing roles where you live, or returning to your passport country for the foreseeable future. I wish we would have had this resource more than a year ago before we started our own transition back to the States after living many years overseas, but I'll keep Looming Transitions close at hand as we continue to resettle in our new location!

Love this book! Great insights

While written for those who are in ministry, I found the author's insights broader, applicable to everyone on the move. Making a smooth transition and the wake left behind--either good or bad--is inevitable. Tip the scales in the direction of a leaving a good wake. Learn from the author how to make the best transition you possibly can while also being kind to yourself and those around you. I wish this book had been available all those years ago when our family made some significant moves and didn't have a clue how to do it or how important the concepts in this book were--both for our sanity and for those in our wake.
I loved the author's sense of humor and self-deprecation as she wove personal stories to either give insight or to make a point. It is filled with practical advice and well worth the read if you're considering moving across state lines or across the ocean. This is a book that is sorely needed in our highly mobile society. Don't miss it!
