I wish this was available before my own long term travel!

This is the most comprehensive guide of its type that I have ever seen. I really wish it had been available when I was planning my own long term trip in 2009.
Jeremy has not only mined his own experience as a long term traveler (having visited 34 countries and counting) but has also tapped into many of the relationships he has fostered with other long term travelers to provide a well rounded view of deciding, planning and undertaking long term travel.
The Long Term Traveler's Guide is geared towards those who are dreaming of long term travel but just haven't been able to see their dream come true. It answers questions you maybe didn't even know to ask and provides a great framework of how to go about making that dream a reality.
This guide will not tell you how to buy a train ticket in Italy, what the best hostel is in Rio de Janeiro, or what the iconic foods of Singapore are. Instead, The Long-Term Traveler's Guide will inform you on the various styles of transportation, accommodations, and eating establishments the world has to offer and will introduce you to various resources you can use to find out those details.

This book is the most update version on long term traveling available. It covered everything I needed to take the plunge into hitting the road and some things I didn't think I needed, but do. I definitely recommend it, buy it, read it, and pack it the next time you go.

Great outline for travel!

An inspiring account of how and why to get into long-term travel. It won't be accessible to people of all economic statuses, obviously, but if you're considering taking the plunge, I think you will find it useful. I've only done a 30-day backpacking trip, nothing longer, but found myself agreeing with much of the advice. I even learned a few new things, like the issue about proof of onward travel. Definitely a good resource for my next trip!
To get the most out of this book, though, it's probably best used in conjunction with the spreadsheets and other tools found on the website, especially if you're a detail-oriented person like myself. For example, Jeremy's posts about the budget in the different places he's visited have been pretty educational, as they show how much of their budget goes towards housing, food, travel, etc. These vary from place to place, of course, so I understand not wanting to put percentages in a book. My main quibble throughout chapters, though, is probably that in trying to make the book general, I think they have made it a bit too vague. But it reads quickly, like a pocket guide, and definitely covered a lot of ground, so I'd still recommend you check it out. :)
