Hard to find but worthwhile academic treatment

The Sisters' Arts is a hard-to-find but comprehensive text which discusses the writings of Virginia Woolf and the paintings of Vanessa Bell. For anyone interested in the Bloomsbury group, this text is a must-have explorations of these two women artists. Author Gillespie draws upon a number of unpublished memoirs and letters, as well as some lesser-known artworks. A limited number of Bell's paintings and dust jackets for Woolf books are reproduced within the text in black and white.

About the Author
Keith Gregory Logan is an associate professor of criminal justice at Kutztown University and the editor/author of Homeland Security and Intelligence. A former federal law enforcement officer and security officer, he also served as a Special Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Columbia and the Eastern District of Virginia. Dr. Logan is a member of the Upper Uwchlan Township Emergency Management Planning Commission and a former member of the U.S. Army Reserves, Major, Military Police Corps.

James D. Ramsay is professor and coordinator of the Homeland Security program at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Dr. Ramsay currently serves on the board of scientific counselors to the Director of the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health in the CDC, and as board member to ABET, Inc., and as the chair of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) Education Standards Committee, and the education standards committee of IAFIE.

Mitigating, managing, and recovering from a disaster

This is an interesting book; however, it fulfils its role as a textbook. The history of the department and its creation is interesting, but I expected more in terms policy and the cohesive interaction between various agencies both Federal and State operated. However guess the only way to get that sort of over view will be to keep up-to-date on the information, will be just keep scrutinizing the web.

Catherine Capra-Leaf Catherine is a life long resident of Minnesota. She graduated from Mariner High school in White Bear Lake, Minnesota in 1976, and attended the University of Minnesota: Duluth. She was married in 1979 to Michael Leaf, and has three daughters, Jennifer, Kimberly, and Heather. She has worked in the White Bear Lake Public Schools as a paraprofessional for 23 years, working with special education students. In her spare time, she enjoys painting, walking, being with family and friends, and her new found love of writing.. Helping others who are walking through their own difficult journey to find their strength is the main focus of her life now. She continues to write stories to inspire and encourage people to find healing in their own lives.

A Journey of Healing

The author of this book takes the reader on a painful, yet faith-filled, journey - a journey where this grieving widow is able to find the blessings along the way. This sentence, found in the last chapter, summarizes her newly-discovered strength well: "During profound and life defining moments, finding strength in our lives may seem like an insurmountable task, but if you look hard, and are "still" and listen for it...it will always find its way to you." Her journey has lessons for anyone who has grieved the passing of a loved one.

Deeply Personal and Heartfelt Story

Are you grieving? Author Catherine Capra-Leaf has been where you are. She shares her deeply personal journey in this heartfelt book. "This is my story, of my love and my loss, and my search to weave the golden threads of it all into the life that I have ahead of me." She writes of the challenges of providing "dignity patrol" and serving as the "program manager" for her husband, Mike, after he develops a rare condition and suffers from a series of strokes. She confronts a range of emotions as she says good-bye and how she must find her "sea legs" as she faces life without him.

Rather than simply dwelling on the difficulties of Mike's much-too-quick decline and all-too-early passing, Capra-Leaf reflects on the nature of destiny. "The beauty and wonder of our lives is that it always will unfold as it should." More importantly, she focuses on the valuable lessons she has learned along the way... the depths of unconditional love and faith, the gift of gratitude and a new awareness of all that surrounds her.

Truly amazing!!!

Looking at this book, you might be slightly skeptical. Perhaps you find this attempt at a book cute, but childish (or not, if you read the description). And frankly, I wouldn't blame you. After all, this IS this work of a third grader. However, when I read this book...wow. I was completely blown away! How could this possibly been written by a third grader? What were we doing in third grade? Selling lemonade to make money for that toy we had our eyes on? But this book is utterly AMAZING. It's well beyond the level of a third grader! All I can say is that I'm thorough impressed. This is someone who will rise to the stars and make a name for herself in the future.

Great children reading material

Bought this for my 8 years old niece who seldom reads story books. Once she got started, she was so captivated by the book and we have to make her pause the reading during lunches and dinners. I asked her how she liked the book and she told me "it was really good, very mysterious...".

What a fantastic book. This is one of those great books that is fun for adults as well as kids. It is hard to find books that both kids and adults like. Reading this to your child will be fun for them and you. I wish there were more books like this. I highly recommend this book.
